Sow your wildflower patch in early to mid-spring. Mixes including perennial varieties can also be sown in late fall; however, only the perennial seeds in the mix may establish enough to overwinter and grow the following spring. Perennial varieties in these mixes are generally hardy in zones 3-9.

Planting and growing instructions:

  • To prepare the soil: remove all weeds, aerate the soil with a garden fork if compacted, then rake flat.
  • Open the spout of the seed shaker and spread seeds evenly over the area up to 100 square feet.
  • Then press seeds into the soil by walking over the planted area with smooth-soled shoes or by using a board to tamp them down.
  • Water the seeds in gently if the soil is dry, taking care not to dislodge the seeds from the soil.
  • If sowing in spring, continue watering for a few weeks; if sowing in fall you likely will not need to water in spring if there was enough rain or snow over the winter.
  • Weed regularly until plants grow to 12″-18″ tall.
