Holy Basil Mug Grow Kit (Direct Ship)

Whether you’re a beginner or expert gardener, you can grow a holy basil plant in a beautiful oversized enamel mug. This indoor growing kit includes:

You can also choose to plant in your own pot of a similar size and use the mug for your favorite beverage instead. Holy basil is a little different in taste from other basils, having a slightly more intense flavor with a hint of licorice. It’s also known for its stress-reducing effects.

Choose a warm spot with at least 4 hours of direct sunlight per day for growing your plant. You may wish to supplement with a fluorescent or LED grow light during the winter months. This kit is designed for growing indoors, but you can also transplant outdoors in mid to late spring if you wish. Holy basil thrives outdoors in the warm climates of USDA zones 10 through 11. Typical growing time is 5 to 10 days until sprouting and 2 to 3 months until harvest.

Pruning often and pinching off flower buds when they appear will help encourage leaf growth and fuller yields. To dry the herbs after harvesting: gently rinse to remove any dirt, tie together in small bunches using kitchen twine, and hang upside down for about 1-2 weeks until completely dry. Store dried herbs in an airtight container for up to one year. Holy basil is an excellent seasoning in stir-fry dishes and spicy soups. To make a tea from the dried leaves, steep in hot water for 5 to 10 minutes.
