Gladiolus – Stunning Summer Flowers!
Gladiolus, also called sword lily, is a cheerful, summer-flowering bulb with stunning blooms that are often used in cut flower arrangements.
The traditional gladiolus, such as our Rainbow Gladiolus Mix, grows tall, stately stalks of colorful flowers and is perennial in warmer zones. However, those in colder zones as low as zone 5 can enjoy these beautiful trumpet-shaped blooms in a petite size with our Hardy Gladiolus Mix.
Both types of gladiolus prefer rich, well-drained soil in a spot that receives full sun. The traditional, tall gladiolus should be planted in a spot that’s sheltered from wind to avoid staking.
Make sure you know your hardiness zone! If you’re located in zone 7 or colder and would like your Rainbow Gladiolus Mix to grow again the next year, you’ll need to dig up the corms and store them over the winter. Hardy Gladiolus Mix can be left in the ground over the winter down to zone 5, and as long as the soil is well-drained the plants and their stunning summer flowers will return again the next year.
